Le Petit Congrès is an annual event showcasing the initiative and achievement of elementary children in foreign language arts. Students are recognized individually or in group based on their presentation - song, poem, theatre, skit or a declamation - on stage before a jury panel composed of professional educators and native speakers.
Created in 1991, we are celebrating this year the 25th anniversary of Le Congrès français*, by honoring the founder Judy Charudattan, Director of École Française in Gainesville since 1988. She is leading various foreign language programs with Blue Wave ASP at P.K.Yonge Developmental Research School, Univ. of Florida, Macs Charter School, Micanopy, and Alachua County Public Schools. She has received several awards including the National Honor of Dorothy Ludwig "Excellence in Teaching Award-Elementary", and with it the national title of 'Elementary French Teacher of the Year 2002'. As a foreign language educator, Judy Charudattan was inducted into the 'Teachers' Hall of Fame' by the Florida Foreign Language Association Inc. in the 34th Annual Conference held in October 2002, 'In recognition of her personal commitment, dedication and invaluable contributions to the field of foreign language education'.
